GOMBAK: A college student, who was trying to escape a raid by religious officers, plunged to his death from the fifth floor of an apartment here.
It is believed that the 21-year-old student, who was alone with his girlfriend, panicked when several policemen and officers from the Selangor Religious Department knocked on the door of the rented unit yesterday.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the 1.40am raid was conducted following a tip-off that illicit activities were taking place at the apartment in Selayang Heights.
“A few minutes after the officers knocked, they heard a loud crash before a girl opened the door,” he said, adding that she looked shaken up.
He said the officers became suspicious when they spotted an open window and were shocked to find the body of the student sprawled beside a drain below.
The student died on the spot due to internal injuries and massive trauma to the head.
ACP Abdul Rahim said the body had been sent to the Selayang Hospital for a post-mortem.
“The deceased was a student at a private college nearby,” he said, adding that the police had also recorded a statement from the girlfriend.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
